Poznań University of Physical Education is the oldest sports university in Poland (founded in 1919) and the third oldest in Europe, after Ghent and Copenhagen. As the only university in the region, it offers courses with coaches of world sports stars, lecturers with many years of academic experience and young academic teachers. The university scored the highest number of points among Polish universities with a mixed profile, i.e. combining practice with general academic knowledge. With almost 4,500 students, the University of Physical Education is one of the most popular sports universities in Poland. Currently, it employs about 520 researchers. The structure of the university consists of two faculties, which include several departments: THE FACULTY OF SPORTS SCIENCES (Departments: Physical Activity, Theory and Methodology of Sport, Kinesiology of Sport, Tourism and Recreation, Dance and Gymnastics) and the FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES (Departments: Dietetics, Biological Sciences, Clinical Physiotherapy, Physiotherapy). Graduates of physical education are prepared to design, plan and implement physical education in schools, kindergartens and special education centers, as well as to coordinate training in competitive sports and in sports for people with disabilities.
Students in the field of Physiotherapy acquire the ability to conduct rehabilitation of people with dysfunctions of locomotor and internal organs, as well as conduct corrective gymnastics in schools and kindergartens. The university combines scientific activity with education through sport of the society, especially of the young generation. The result of coaching work is the preparation of leading athletes to participate in the most important sporting events.
